From a second-floor office above the old 1st National Bank to our building on First Street, this practice has cared for Hopkins families for more than a century.
The history of our practice reaches back to the 1920s, when Dr. A.H. Malerich, Sr. graduated from the University of Minnesota Dental School and opened a dental office on Mainstreet in Hopkins, on the second floor of the old 1st National Bank Building.
His son, Dr. A.H. Malerich, Jr., followed him into dentistry — serving as a dentist and oral surgeon in WWII before joining his father's practice. As Hopkins grew, so did the practice: in 1959, Dr. Malerich, Jr. built the building where we still practice today.
Dr. Alan Hatcher joined in 1979 and purchased the practice in 1983. In 2004 he brought in a partner, Dr. Kris Bomstad, who assumed full responsibility for the practice in 2009 — and welcomed Dr. Anders Olson to the team in 2025.
Some things change, and some things stay the same. From the beginning, this has been a preventive-based, family-oriented practice with a small-town feel. We take care of our patients like friends and family — while staying current with the best products, materials and techniques in modern dentistry.
Dr. Bomstad grew up in Hutchinson, MN — a swimmer who loved fishing, hunting and working on his grandparents' farm. He earned his undergraduate degree from St. Olaf College and his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the University of Minnesota.
Practicing family and cosmetic dentistry since 2000, Dr. Bomstad is certified in Invisalign, Lumineers, CEREC and dental implants. His greatest satisfaction comes from helping patients who feel discouraged about their oral health rediscover confidence in their smile — and their outlook on life.
Outside the office you'll find him with his wife, son and daughter — or fishing, hunting and water skiing. Ask him about his latest fish story; he's sure to have a good one.
Dr. Olson grew up in Bloomington, MN, heavily involved in cross country running, track & field and Nordic skiing — all three of which he continued in college. He earned his undergraduate degree from Gustavus Adolphus College and his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry.
A true "social butterfly" in dental school (he won the award to prove it), Dr. Olson organized a running club and thrived in clinical work — particularly patient exams, surgical procedures and prosthodontics.
He loves helping people feel confident in their smile, and especially enjoys procedures that restore a patient's dentition.
New patients are always welcome at our Hopkins office.
